Another amazing meal at The Old House.
Beautiful food and Excellent service from our waitress Amber.
She went the extra mile by making my friend’s dessert extra special with a special happy birthday candle.
So lucky to have this place on our doorstep.

The Old House 1147 is outstanding..
We really can’t heap enough praise on The Old House 1147. Myself & my wife were blown away by everything, the location is fantastic, the Sunday lunch was one of the best we’ve ever had anywhere in Wales & the views are breathtaking, the service from every member of staff was 5 star, the rooms were lovely the whole experience was just top draw. We went for an over night stay for our anniversary & we (I) chose well lol..

Save your money go elsewhere!
Honestly don’t waste your money here, they constantly show the same clip on social media of the back of the building in the sunshine, what they fail to show you is that you can’t actually enjoy that part of the garden unless your friends of the owner and invited to a private party this was booked for my birthday present and was nothing but a huge disappointment. We were in the new rooms which can only be described as a galley kitchen, the room was small and the bathroom was even smaller plus all those instagram worthy pictures they put on …everyone can see in your room. So if you are looking for privacy or celebrating a special occasion this isn’t the place for you. We booked a table well in advance and requested a table in the window to look over the ‘Instagramable’ garden to be told it’s not a guarantee, if it can’t be guaranteed when you're staying and paying a rate to stay there who is the priority? The owner's family perhaps? Sunday morning was woken up by someone hoovering above at 6.30am for about an hour, didn't think it could get any worse until we arrived at breakfast… poor quality, awful service (one young girl running the breakfast service by herself on a Sunday morning over bank holiday?)

Bigger not always better.
Called in for lunch after seeing it had been recommended as one of the best pubs in south wales. Lovely building and nice staff, sat down at our table, they forgot to ask us if we wanted drinks, did come back about 10 minutes later after getting drinks for a table that came in after us. Food came out quickly, starters were very tasty portions too big, mains came out within a minute or so after our starters were cleared, pies were huge with too much pastry, would be better in a pie dish with a just a pastry top. Dessert, biscoff bun filled with dense cream needed pouring cream as it was very dry.

Appalling snotty nosed member of staff
While travelling from Bridgend to Port Talbot, decided to take a detour and have lunch in the Old House. Sign outsude saying open for lunch so my son and I parked and enter the hotel via a doorway from th car park. Enquired at the bar if there was a table available, we were politely told that unfortunately there was a private function to which i thanked him and asked him if my so could you the toilet znd he pointed us in the right direction. We had only taken a few paces when we stopped by a very rude member of staff saying it was a private function and that we weren't allowed to be there blocking our way to the toilets. She did let my son use the gents as the door was behind us. She then blocked our way stopping us going back the way we had come. By the time my son came out of the gents she had been called away, but we were ushered out of a side door. While i appreciate it was a private function we were made to feel like something she had stepped in outside. My gripe is not only the way she spoke to us but i beleive there should have been a notice outside advising possible customers of the private function and not the sign stating they were open for lunch. Won't be going back there anytime soon.
